Understanding the TIIE (Tasa de Interés Interbancaria de Equilibrio)
The TIIE is Mexico’s benchmark interbank interest rate, published daily by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico). It represents the average rate at which banks lend money to one another and serves as the foundation for determining most lending rates across the country. When you obtain financing in Mexico, your rate is often expressed as “TIIE + spread,” where the spread depends on your credit profile, loan term, and collateral.
